On this page, you can purchase your online ticket to enter the Vella Terra fair and enjoy it to the fullest. Before continuing, we’d like to share some key aspects of our philosophy and how we’ve worked since we started Vella Terra back in 2016.
The guidelines for our fair were established in 2017, one year after the first Vella Terra edition. Among other criteria, we stipulated that the wines showcased at our fair must not be chemically clarified or filtered, must contain less than 30 mg of sulfites per liter, and that winemakers must provide analytical data to ensure transparency and authenticity.[Read our full guidelines here].
These standards are rooted in the consensus of the natural wine community and inspired by the guidelines of renowned associations like VinNatur or others, which has been promoting the development of natural wine across Europe for over 20 years. They also align with the official certification created in France in 2019, endorsed by the French government, which sets clear parameters for defining and identifying natural wine.
The need for clear rules in our fair arose from the confusion seen at many European and national events. Some fairs were marketed as natural wine events, but the wines presented there didn’t meet basic standards. This, coupled with the radical stances of some national wineries claiming their wines were “natural” without providing reliable analyses, often resulted in disparagement of other wineries that, due to necessity or circumstances, used minimal amounts of sulfites to protect their vintages.
Frustrated by this lack of transparency and double standards, we decided to take action. At Vella Terra, we’ve put an end to such practices: if a wine is presented as natural, it must be verified every year. Most importantly, we do so without judging other producers. Our priority is ensuring that the information we provide to consumers is accurate and trustworthy.
At our fair, every participating winery meets these standards. Most do not use sulfites in their wines, while a small percentage employ them in minimal quantities (less than 30 mg per liter). We understand that not everything is black and white—climates and terroirs vary—and we value that every winemaker proudly showcases their work and explains their choices within these minimal intervention parameters.
Our Journey in Natural Wine: A Path of Effort and Passion
Over the years, we’ve promoted natural wine independently, facing unfounded criticism and dishonest behavior often driven by envy or greed. Many of these critiques come from those seeking to maintain influence or secure a spot at our fair at any cost, even when their actions were unethical. Others come from individuals who weren’t even part of the sector when we began or whom we supported during their early steps in the wine world.
The facts speak for themselves: with nine years of leadership in the sector, Vella Terra has brought together renowned wineries and sold out tickets for every edition, demonstrating our impact on natural wine in Spain. If we were doing it wrong, this wouldn’t happen year after year.
Fortunately, the majority recognize our effort and professionalism. Visitors from all over Barcelona, Spain, and the world come back every year to experience our fair, celebrate its positive impact, and become part of it. These people are our greatest inspiration to keep pushing forward and striving for excellence in every edition.
The First Natural Wine Fair in Spain
It’s undeniable that our fair has been a driving force for the evolution of the natural wine sector in Spain. Since our founding, we’ve welcomed over 500 natural wine-producing wineries from 23 countries, internationalizing many of them through certification of their wines. Thousands of professionals from 33 countries, including top importers from major markets like Asia and America, as well as high-end restaurateurs, chefs, and sommeliers, have visited us.
We’ve prioritized promoting national wineries that meet natural winemaking standards while welcoming international wineries with decades of experience. This has cemented our place as Spain’s first international fair exclusively dedicated to natural wine, with nearly a decade of history.
Our approach is based on facts, not rumors. We are committed to constant improvement, maximizing available resources to promote each winery uniquely, with passion and dedication. This combination of quality, approachability, and empathy defines our work and has allowed us to remain leaders in this exciting sector. Vella Terra is not just a fair; it’s an independent, global community—a space of respect, professionalism, and passion for natural wine, open to everyone and constantly evolving.
This upcoming 10th edition, we’ll welcome wineries and visitors to a cozy venue at Carrer de Pamplona 88, Barcelona.
